From a website that kept crashing to one the whole team can run

The starting point

London Legal Support Trust raises money for free legal advice services, and its website is where supporters find its walks and events and sign up. That website ran on an ageing Umbraco system that nobody was maintaining. It kept crashing and going offline, and the staff and volunteers who updated it weren't web specialists.

Other agencies had quoted for the work without looking closely at what the charity did or needed. We started there.

Built around the people who run it

Before designing anything, we assessed what the charity's staff and volunteers could manage without technical help. Everything that followed was built so they could run the site day to day.

Web design and migration

• Moved from Umbraco to WordPress, with a modernised, responsive design that kept the charity's brand.
• Salesforce integration and mailing-list sign-up, so supporters' details go straight to where the team needs them.
• Donations built in, with banking integration for direct donations.
• Security hardening to keep the site stable and protected.

A switch timed around the events

Events are central to the charity's fundraising, so we scheduled the move between two major fundraising events, and gave prompt support on technical and integration issues as the new site bedded in.

Results

• 100% uptime since the new site launched in 2020, after constant crashes on the old system.
• The whole team updates the site themselves, with no technical help needed.
• Walks and events are always fully booked, with supporters signing up through the site.

We trained the wider team to manage the content, and we still maintain the system.
